About us

NPP believes in serving people for their overall well-being. We aim to build a society that values healthy democracy.

History

In its endeavour to champion the cause of the indigenous people of India, particularly Northeast and to voice the concerns of the ethnic communities, minorities and the voiceless, the National People’s Party (NPP) was founded in January 2013 by Late Purno Agitok Sangma.

Purno Agitok Sangma is one of the tallest figure of Indian politics, who began his humble political career from Tura in Meghalaya and rose to the highest position in the Lok Sabha as its Speaker. A man with multifaceted personality, he stood for his people at all times. For him his people where core and they were his guiding principles.

His ideals drew inspiration from people and the grassroot issues that makes the National People’s Party, a party of the people, whose ideals lie intricately with the core issues of its people. The National People’s Party is the only party from the Northeast, which has the recognition of a “National Party”.

Though NPP is a “National” party its character is very different from other political parties of the country, as we believe in diversity of the country and diversity of issues. We believe that every region, every State has its own issues, so we at NPP work collectively to identify the issues and concerns of the people and work together to achieve the desired results.

As envisioned by its founder, NPP has taken it as responsibility of the party to represent the regional aspiration of the people at the national political area. We as a party have committed ourselves to further the agenda for our people in areas of progress, growth, development and niche out our identity.

The recognition of NPP as a “National” party is a great achievement for the people of Northeast. It is a moment for all of us to remember the ideals of our late leader Purno Sangma, whose contribution to the party has led this possible. Though he is not amidst us today but his ideals will live forever.

We at NPP believe that we are not just a political force but a forum of all the ethnic people. The recognition of our party is testimony of our faith that irrespective of our difference at times and diversity when we come together we can achieve greater heights.
